Cuba’s Vibrant Startup Scene

HAVANA — Digital entrepreneurs in Cuba face many challenges, including bureaucracy and inconsistent internet access. Still, they are powering a fledgling startup scene in one of the world’s least connected  and business-friendly nations.

Young Cuban entrepreneurs’ personal stories symbolize the digital revolution underway as Cuba is slowly opening up to the world following the U.S.-Cuba thaw: Google opened in March 2016 its first internet store in Cuba, which used to curb Internet to prevent dissension.

Besides, the regime just launched residential broadband internet in some areas of Havana – previously reserved for diplomats and foreign companies staff.
